Zingiber spectabile - Beehive Ginger - Zingiberaceae

A Ginger species which can be found growing in forests in southern Thailand.

The plant prefers filtered sunlight and needs sufficient humidity to grow to a height

                of 6' to 8' ( 1.80m to 2.40m ).

Inflorescence greenish yellow to cream - yellow, composed of incurved bracts with lighter

colored rim. Small purple flowers emerging between bracts.

Though being held on rather short stems below the foliage the inflorescences are

remarkably attractive as they are very well contrasting on a darker background.

Another aspect is that they are slowly turning  red with age.

Long lasting cut flower but most beautiful when left on plant.
